HOW TO JOIN
Membership in Girl Scouting is open to any girl between the ages of 5 and 17 and men and women over the age of 18, who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and pay the $10.00 annual membership dues.
The entire $10.00 membership fee is forwarded directly to GSUSA National Headquarters. None of this fee remains with Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council.
The Girl Scout membership year is October 1 through September 30. All girl and adult members (except lifetime members) must renew their membership each year. Only registered members can participate in GSHVC program events or camp and bring their families to GSHVC family events or Family Camp. Registration ensures that all members receive Council publications and have access to the "Members and Families" section of the web site.
To join GSHVC e-mail our Council (put register in the subject line) and we will put you in contact with your area representative.
Girls who want to be members of the Girl Scout Movement but do not wish to be members of a troop or group can register individually as a Juliette. In the fall, Juliettes will receive a mailing with the Family Information Book. Girls interested in working independently on badges, interest projects and other awards should contact their Membership Executive (e-mail the Membership Executive for the area in which you live) at Council Headquarters. Juliettes can participate in camp and other GSHVC programs. They can also participate in QSP and cookie sales. E-mail Council (put Juliette in the subject line) to receive information on becoming a Juliette.
To become a lifetime member, adults pay a one-time fee of $250. Girl Scouts may become lifetime members after graduating high school (or equivalent) and before their membership expires for a discounted fee of $130. Except for graduating Girl Scouts, girl members are not eligible for lifetime membership. Lifetime members do not need to renew their membership each year, but should report any changes in status (name, address, troop affiliation and position on the Lifetime Member Information form or they can call Council Headquarters.
To register for lifetime membership, check the appropriate box on the Adult Registration form. Send the form and payment to Council Headquarters. If registering with a troop, lifetime membership registrations should be attached to a separate Dues Summary with payment and submitted along with your Troop registrations to your Service Unit Registrar.
